Origins of Gerlingcat
Maine Coons |

| We specialize in Maine Coon cats that are friendly, large and wild-looking, in brown mackerel tabby and brown classic tabby, sometimes with some white. I strive, through bonding and good breeding, to give you a great new family member.
Here's how Gerlingcat Maine Coons came to be: In 1990 I fell in love with Maine Coon cats after attending a cat show in Kansas City. I acquired my breeding male from Barbara Ray and her cattery, Willowplace. Willowplace Vulcan became the founding father of the Gerlingcat Maine Coon line. Soon after, I bought a female Purricoon-based kitten from Libby Watkins. Her name was Katmaindu Venus, and her father was Purricoon Arthur Coonan Doyle, one of the best Grand Champions in the country. Artie, as he was called, achieved his Distinguished Merit award in 1995. Venus and Vulcan produced some fine kittens which I sold as pets and for showing and breeding to other Maine Coon breeders. I kept two of their kittens for showing and breeding, a brother and sister, Grand Champion Gerlingcat Skywalker and Grand Champion Gerlingcat Princess Leia. They were both beautiful and huge. Here is a photo of Vulcan, Venus and their daughter Princess Leia, born in 1992, and now healthy at over 14 years old. Next to them is Leia's younger brother Grand Champion Gerlingcat Skywalker:
Here is Skywalker and one of his kittens, and an additional photo too.
To diversify the Gerlingcat line of Maine Coon cats, in 2001 I bought Bandicoon Delilah from Theresa Loomis. Delilah is unrelated to Skywalker. Delilah, a brown, classic tabby, has produced several grand champions and beautiful pets. She achieved her Distiinguished Merit award on March 11, 2006. Since the first Maine Coon achieved the Distinguished Merit award in 1983, fewer than 160 Maine Coons have ever achieved it, so I am very happy about her achievement. She joins two other cats from my cattery that have been awarded the DM. To achieve it, she has given birth to five kittens that have been awarded the Grand Champion award. Alexis Mitchell from Syracoon Cattery helped a great deal by granding several of her kittens in 2005 and 2006.
